Being Happy In The Now

Posted by Tom Locke on January 21st, 2012 filed in Business, General, Life

I respect people who have set goals and/or milestones for their careers and personal lives.   I do it as well.

Sounds admirable but are we missing an opportunity along the way?   Like being “happy” during our journey.

For some, being or becoming happy is a goal/destination and not part of the journey.

For example, have you ever caught yourself saying, “As soon as I finish school or lose ten pounds or wait until the kids leave home, then I will start enjoying myself”?

Life will always be filled with challenges and opportunities.   However, the fact is that these challenges and  opportunities are your life.   So why not experience them in a positive manner.

As sales motivator, Jeffrey Gotimer, explains:   “There is no “way” to happiness.   Happiness is the way”.

Hence, the reality is that  there is no better time to be happy than right now.

And the even better news is that you control it!

I liked your comments, Tom. Here’s a quote to which you might relate. I had copied it down a few months ago. “If you pursue happiness as the meaning of your life, then you probably won’t get it. Happiness is a by-product of other things in life: purpose, love, friendship, service to others, generosity, forgiveness, compassion. Pursue these things with an open heart.” Quote is by John Mackey, CEO of the Whole Food chain. Do you like it?
