What I Want For Christmas

I used to drive my oldest daughter, Cathy, nuts growing up when she would ask, “Dad, what do you want for Christmas?” and I would reply, “Happiness”.

As she got older, more educated and out into the working world, my perrenial  answer started making sense to her.   She also began valuing the simple things in life and  even gave me a book one Christmas, titled simply, “Happiness”.   I keep that book by my bed and leaf through it from time to time.

Recently, I questioned myself as to when I started to value “Happiness” at Christmas time.   Going through some old quotes  about Christmas, I came across one from Bob Hope.   I immediately remembered hearing it for the first time in my early teens.

Mr. Hope said:   “When we recall Christmas past, we usually  find  that the simplest things – not the great occasions – give off the greatest glow of happiness.”
