IQ in Action

In 1986 I was invited to join the International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers (IQ) and attended the annual conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.   Simply put, it was awe inspiring.

With representation in more than 45 countries, members share work and catch up with new business developments at these legendary  conferences.   Our recent 2009 conference in Maui  was no exception.

The highlight of this conference for me was the warm reception given to first time attendee, Tope Idowu of Nigeria.   His presentation captured the interest of many – so much so that he left the conference with partnership funding for future projects.

This gave me much personal satisfaction as it was only three years ago that Nigeria allowed this talented filmmaker to go abroad and enroll in UBC’s “Entertainment Administration” program.   That’s where Tope and I first met.

In keeping in touch with him and tracking his progress over the next two years, I soon became comfortable in sponsoring him for membership in IQ.   He was readily accepted.   And, like many of my fellow members, I look forward to future interaction with him.
