Handling Conflict
Posted by Tom Locke on April 6th, 2010 filed in Business, LifeBe it business or personal, we all have encountered conflict from time to time. And conflict will continue to raise its ugly head as we continue to interact with others. However, given that most of us don’t like conflict or confrontation, we must realize that we have a choice in how to handle it.
There maybe times when anger is appropriate. This approach is often a short term satisfier for the “giver” and a “dissatisfier” for the “receiver”. On the other hand is the humanistic approach where we respond with understanding, love and compassion. With this approach, we open the door to make a contribution that may be of value to the “receiver”.
So the next time you find yourself in a confrontational situation where you are forced or wish to provide some input, ask yourself this question before you respond: “Am I opening my mouth to contribute or to contaminate?”
By contributing, you will feel much better about yourself and the situation.
