2012 Vancouver Canadians

I   spent a number of afternoons and evenings at the “Nat” this  summer watching this year’s edition of the Vancouver Canadians and I must say there is some talent in the making on that team.

Incredibly, the team rose to the occasion and won the Northwest League A Championship for the second year in a row.   And, again, they did it in memorable fashion.

They beat Boise in the finals 2 games to 1.   The first game saw them down 7 to 1 going into the bottom of the 6th.   Fans began to leave the stadium.   Even the Global TV cameraman packed up and left.   When I saw that I turned to someone and said, “I love it when that happens”.   The “C’s” responded with a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 6th, scored 7 times in the 7th and went on to win 10 – 7.

The next two games were in Boise.   Game 2 saw Boise win a crowd pleaser 3 -2 by scoring  single runs in the bottom of the 8th and 9th.

The third and deciding game was ear marked to be a pitching duel with each team having their ace on the mound.   It was far from it.   After the first inning the score was 4 – 2 for Boise.   By the time the 8th inning rolled around Boise was up 7 – 5.   That’s when the flood gates open as the “C’s” manufactured another 7 run inning and hung on to win 12 – 9.

I listened to the final game on the radio – it brought back a lot of memories of listening to ball on the radio in the late 50’s and early 60’s.
