Retirement – Fact or Fantasy
Posted by Tom Locke on May 10th, 2013 filed in LifeLast night I had cause to attend a seminar on financial health. In the presentation, some good practical examples and test cases were used to bring home the point that even though the population is ageing, retirement as it is perceived/desired may not be in the cards for many.
In many cases, it’s not that people don’t want to retire. The facts are they can’t. Their days of “living in the now” and supporting others, like their children, has taken its toll – to the point that financial security for the so-called “golden years” has become an unobtainable dream.
As pointed out by the financial experts at this seminar, most people have not spent the time to plan for their retirement. In fact, some studies indicate that a mere 5% of the current population will be able to live in a financially independent environment during their retirement years.
To you young people out there, the ideal time to start planning for your retirement and family protection is now. Recent history is dictating: “If you fail to plan, plan to fail”.
