Reliving My Youth

I am so glad I took time out to go and, not only see, but experience the Beach Boys live at the PNE here in Vancouver on Wednesday evening.

Although minus Brian Wilson, the sound and their performances were stellar.  Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston still got it and their supporting cast would have made Brian and his two deceased brothers, Carl and Dennis, very proud.

They played solidly for an hour and forty minutes, starting the set off with six in a row before they took a breath and spoke to the audience.

It was also nice to see them throw in some other numbers from the 60’s era including a male rendition of the Crystals’ hit “Then He Kissed Me” and a tremendous arrangement of “So Young”, a song the Beach Boys did in 1965 that was a Doo Wop hit for the Students in 1958.

For the last half hour everybody was up and dancing like we were teenagers again.  In short it was “Fun, Fun, Fun”.
